This project aims to set up a smallholder-led supply chain for the production of sugarcane for further processing into ethanol. It aims to increase the production of sugarcane by linking smallholder farmers who have previously not grown the crop under one area and by setting up an irrigation system for dual cropping. The farmers will be provided with technical backstopping on good agricultural practices and management of irrigation systems. The sugarcane that is grown will be bought by the company for processing into syrup for the production of ethanol which will be sold on the domestic market and for industrial use. The project aims to create more than 50 new jobs in the supply chain and improve the income of over 150 sugarcane farmers.
