The fund has provided a matching grant to a project that aims to produce bamboo-based charcoal for the domestic market. The project will identify 18,000 households for planting of bamboo seedlings, set up a nursery for bamboo seedlings production, establish and manage the bamboo plantation —including water supply development at an anchor farm— and establish a charcoal production plant. The seedlings, which will be imported from Indonesia, will be supplied to the anchor farm and households to assist in creating a sustainable bamboo plantation. The production of legal charcoal from bamboo will contribute to soil conservation, create over 150 jobs at the anchor farm and charcoal processing plant, and save the equivalent of 50,000 trees.
